Synopsis

In this Level 1 first reader, Pup and Hound set their sniffers to the ground on the trail of a thief.

Children's Literature

Pup and Hound hear a crash and see the cat streak out of the house. They are quite suspicious and go to check out the problem. It looks like a piggy bank has been broken into and those two are just the ones who can solve this heinous crime. The trail leads them to cat, but she does not seem to be much of a burglar. Then when the farmer's locket is stolen, the police are called in on the case. In the meantime, the detectives have followed cat and what do they spy—the real thief—a greedy magpie. The three team up to guard the house to make sure that the thieving bird never returns. The illustrations are as much fun as the text. New readers should enjoy this early reader and will get plenty of help in decoding the text by looking at the illustrations. A level 1 book in the "Kids Can Read" series.
