Gr 6-9-Careers in the communications and entertainment industries are explored in these easy-to-read books targeted at noncollege-bound students. Radio looks at disc jockeys, technicians, program managers, interns, etc.; Theater covers the duties of a stage manager, actor, costume designer, etc.; and Film includes makeup artist, film editor, and optical-effects timer. The descriptions of positions such as gaffer, sound recordist, and property master are simple and are peppered with anecdotes and full-color photos showing people on the job. Sample resumes and suggestions to break into the respective fields are included, along with a strong emphasis on hard work and perseverance.
