Overview

It is surely. There was a man in here a while ago -- the man sold us that knife -- and he said if you set off walking from the rocks beyond, it would be seven days you'd be in Donegal.

Synopsis

Riders To The Sea is a one-act play written by John Millington Synge, first performed in 1904. The play is set in a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, and tells the story of a family who have lost many of their men to the sea. The play revolves around the central character, Maurya, an old woman who has lost her husband, her father-in-law, and her four sons to the sea. The play opens with Maurya's youngest son, Bartley, preparing to go to the mainland to sell a horse. Maurya is reluctant to let him go, fearing that he too will be lost to the sea. Despite her protests, Bartley sets off on his journey, and Maurya is left to wait anxiously for his return. The play explores themes of grief, loss, and the harsh realities of life in a remote island community, where the sea is both a source of livelihood and a constant threat. Overall, Riders To The Sea is a poignant and powerful exploration of the human condition, and a timeless masterpiece of Irish literature. It is surely.
