School Library Journal

Gr 3-5-In both books, easy-to-follow, linear content is enhanced by informative, good-quality photos, illustrations, and reproductions. While these texts provide solid reference information, they also give young readers a great introduction to the men and the times in which they lived. The easy-to-follow tables of contents are well organized, and the format is attractive. Back matter includes interesting time lines, useful glossaries, reading extensions, Web sites, and lists of addresses and phone numbers for places of interest. Both Sam Houston and Brigham Young were colorful historical figures who led somewhat controversial lives. These engaging biographies are rich and colorful in content and contain all the makings of a good reading adventure.-Barbara L. McMullin, Casita Center for Technology, Science & Math, Vista, CA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
