This book shares the secrets of earning and saving money. It explores savings accounts and investing, and includes fact boxes and activities to continue the learning experience long after the book is returned to the shelf.

Children's Literature

Before you can save money, you have to have money. An adult earns money by working at a job. Children often can earn money by working at a job, too. Their jobs might include helping to look after a younger child, taking care of pets, or cleaning their room. These responsibilities are often tied to an allowance. Children may sometimes receive money as a gift from a grandparent or other relative for birthdays. Teaching young children the value of money is an important life lesson. Learning how to save money is a large part of this lesson. This early chapter book presents these lessons about money using photographs that include multicultural children. Words in bold print are explained in the glossary. An index and further information pages are also included. Each book in this "Weekly Reader" series presents a math challenge, which allows the young reader to apply the knowledge that he has gained from reading the text. This is an acceptable secondary source for this curriculum area but should not be purchased as a primary source. A better choice would be the "My Money" series (Compass Point). 2006, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library, Ages 4 to 6.
