Overview

This engaging series emphasizes the helping aspect of people in many common careers. Easy-to-read text and bold photographs lead readers through the basics of these occupations -- that the people do, wear, and drive; where they work; who they help; and who helps them.

A simple introduction to the clothing, tools, schooling, and work of school principals.

Children's Literature - Meredith Kiger

This "Community Helpers" book, one in a series of 20, is a short, rather idealized discussion of the many "hats" of a school principal. Areas discussed include tools principals use, principals and training, principals and the community, and principals and teachers. Each topic is accompanied by a color photo of a principal in a particular setting, but unfortunately, seven of the nine principals shown are males. Rather than candid photos, they all seem posed. Failing to present a more equitable picture of community workers tends to date these kinds of books prematurely. Included is a game for a principal to play with a class, a glossary and additional resources.
