Overview
To many people, physics is a science for the laboratory. This book contains projects about physics that can be performed in different rooms of the home. Readers will learn about forces in nature, light, heat, density, and speed. The stimulating experiments for secondary students use simple and inexpensive materials that are available around the home or school. Most experiments are great starts for science fair projects and include safety warnings where applicable.Presents instructions for physics projects and experiments that can be done at home and exhibited at science fairs.

School Library Journal
Gr 6-9-Two books of experiments that range from simple to relatively complex. While some of the activities can be found in other sources, Gardner does a fine job of presenting them in a clear, straightforward manner. The required materials are listed at the beginning of each experiment. Activities or parts of activities that require adult supervision are designated. Simple and uncluttered line drawings illustrate the scientific laws and principles under discussion. In many cases, the author does not explain what happened, but offers a series of questions for readers to think about instead. Physics in the Home goes from living room to kitchen to bathroom, with a side trip to the playground. Plants is organized so that activities with seeds lead to leaves, roots, flowers, and the whole plant. Each book has a list of suppliers for science projects-something that's quite useful, but not needed for most of the experiments in these books. Very good indexes and lists of suggested books and Internet sites are appended. Libraries with a need for more science-project materials will find these titles useful.-Todd Morning, Schaumburg Township Public Library, IL Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
