Synopsis

Simple text and photographs present sea snakes and their habits.

Robbin Gould - Children's Literature

This brief introduction to sea snakes makes a good reference book for early readers. In 66 words it describes the visual characteristics of these underwater reptiles and discusses how they breathe, swim, and kill their prey. Simple, slightly larger type accommodates the younger reader, as does the repetition of several words. Each page of text is complemented by a color photo of a sea snake; three of the photos identify the scales, nostrils, and tail of a sea snake when these specific features are discussed on the accompanying page. The book also includes a glossary, a suggested book list, a source for Internet sites, and an index/word list. It is part of the "Ocean Life" series, which also features books about dolphins, octopuses, sea horses, whales, sharks, and numerous other creatures. 2003, Pebble Books/Capstone Press,
