Children's Literature

All the books in the "My Five Senses" series, including Sight, are attractive and full of visually arresting images. Hidalgo is adept at conveying complex ideas in a simple way. A lot of information, such as the various methods the body has for protecting a person's eyes, is presented in lists and is very reader friendly. Most of the information presented is basic since the book is more an introduction to the topic to incite further interest. The text is in large-print of varying hues and accompanied by photographs flooded with color. While the presentation of materials and the level of information presented are consistent throughout the series, this book on sight might be the best since the pleasure of looking at the images complements the topic so well. At other times the strong visual aspect of the series might overshadow the information presented. There are sections on activities, vocabulary and further reading at the end of the book. 2004, Smart Apple Media, Ages 4 to 6.
