Library Journal
This is an excellent introduction to the sumptuous art of painting on silk. Milne piques the student's interest with a brief history of the Silk Road and the production of silk, then covers basic materials and color theory. Irises, dolphins, and abstract designs materialize with the help of spirit- and water-based resists, salt, batik wax, and other media. The book is comparable to Vibeke Born's Silk Painting (LJ 11/15/97) and is aimed at the same skill level, but it has the important advantage of carrying a sturdy spiral binding. Recommended.
