Children's Literature

Another volume in the "World of Recipes" series, which includes Festival Foods, Desserts and Sweets from Around the World, Vegetarian Recipes from Around the World as well as books about foods from specific countries, this collection of snack foods contains 17 recipes, from Italian pizza to Chinese fried rice and Mexican quesadillas. The degrees of difficulty listed—easy, medium, and difficult—seem appropriate, although all recipes require adult assistance if attempted by younger children. Where unusual or difficult-to-find ingredients such as the halloumi cheese in "Grilled Red Peppers" are listed, alternatives (feta or cheddar) are usually mentioned. The recipes are generally easy to make and appealing to kids. The glossary, index, and short list of books for additional study should make this book popular in schools or public libraries for cooking assignments from various cultures. 2004, Heinemann Library, Ages 8 to 12.
