Veteran narrator Nadia May cannot enliven this overlong title. Harris, a seasoned show-biz biographer, concentrates on Loren's career, creating an extraordinarily detailed filmography that may be better suited to print than audio. In formulaic fashion, Harris provides a plot summary for each of Loren's many films, a blow-by-blow account of the films' productions, speculations about affairs with her costars, and, finally, critical reviews and audience reaction. With accounts of Loren's personal life coming mainly from secondary sources, the listener is ultimately unsure of Loren's true feelings and beliefs, despite the quantity of information presented. It is also unfortunate that so little time is devoted to Loren's eventful childhood in Mussolini's Italy. Considering the poor sound quality of this recording, which includes background noise and abrupt starts and stops, most libraries can safely stick to the book.--Beth Farrell, Portage Cty. Dist.
