Children's Literature
The state of South Carolina is thoroughly examined in this information book, one in the publisher's "From Sea to Shining Sea" series. Excellent photos and drawings from archives and stock images make the design of the book appealing. The many sidebars provide succinct facts and thought-provoking questions. "Who's Who in South Carolina?" is a frequent sidebar identifying important state citizens from all walks of life and their accomplishments. The geography, history, economics, government and culture of South Carolina are presented in well-written chapters. The six maps throughout the book are commendable and lend smart support to the text. A recipe for peach cobbler is a nice touch. Back matter includes an almanac, a historical timeline, famous South Carolinians, a glossary, web sites and book titles and an index.βJacki Vawter
