Synopsis
Breaking with the common-sense attitude that news is simply ‘what happens ’, Spinning into Control looks closely at the relationship between news journalism and its sources. Jerry Palmer argues that the relationship has two essential components: the reasons why journalists approach sources and how they choose between them; and the reasons why sources approach journalists or allow (or don t allow) themselves to be approached. Fundamental to this relationship is the question of the values that determine which events are selected as ‘newsworthy ’ and which are neglected.
