Summer
The days are hot and school is over. Summer has arrived. Children can ride their bicycles, play ball, swim in the river or in the ocean. And they don’t have to dress warm. Here is one in a series of four delightful books with simple questions and activities for younger children, followed on the last pages by a guide for parents and teachers. Boys and girls will discover how much fun they can have in Summer.

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2-While these titles have appealing artwork on every spread, the information presented is slight or simply misleading. In Spring, Roca states that some animals come from "their mother's belly and others are born from an egg"; even very young children are familiar with the concept of hatching. Readers are encouraged to search for chestnuts in Autumn and to look for almond trees blooming in Spring, but both of these activities surely depend on where one lives. The inclusion of Christmas and Easter in the seasonal discussions detracts from the natural focus of the books and may limit the audience. Fun projects and crafts are provided at the end of each book. A guide for parents that delves a bit more deeply into certain concepts is appended. Linda Glaser's "Celebrate the Seasons!" books (Millbrook), with their cut-paper collage illustrations and lyrical texts, are better choices.-Jody Kopple, Shady Hill School, Cambridge, MA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
