School Library Journal

Gr 5-8-These series entries continue the familiar format of presenting an overview and a variety of facts and activities about a specific biome. Comprised of the vast forest regions in the north of three continents, the taiga regions are home to many animals and migrating birds. The tundra and grasslands are equally vital to the well being of the Earth. The experiments and observations noted are interesting and within the range of most students' understanding. Children are encouraged to read further about these ecological areas and to talk to others about what they have learned. As with many other books on the environment, they are urged to write letters to pertinent organizations. However, here they are also advised to consume wisely, and the names of companies offering energy-saving devices are listed. Full-color photos are scattered throughout. For reports and research projects, as well as for ideas for experiments for science fairs, these titles are valuable resources.-Eva Elisabeth Von Ancken, Trinity Pawling School, NY
