School Library Journal

Gr 9 Up A fact-filled history of taxation and its surrounding complications as they have evolved in the United States. Sapinsley's coverage includes corporate, individual, and many international taxes with brief but thorough coverage of current problems. The tax revolt and tax reform issues of the last decade are defined in their current and historical contexts; the Tax Reform Act of 1986 is described up to its recent point of passage. Given the difficulty of bringing the subject alive to many readers, Sapinsley has written a respectable, well-organized survey with a decidedly helpful index and too-brief bibliography. Recommended for collections supporting U.S. history and particularly U.S. economic history.Catherine vanSonnenberg, LaJolla Country Day School, Calif.
