Overview

Genome Mapping and Molecular Breeding in Plants provides a timely overview of the current status of genome analysis, with an emphasis on economically and academically relevant species. The work focuses on genetic and physical genome maps; on mapping, cloning, and monitoring of economic genes through molecular breeding; and on the most recent advances in genomics. The series comprises seven volumes: Cereals and Millets; Oilseeds; Pulses, Sugar and Tuber Crops; Fruits and Nuts; Vegetables; Technical Crops; and Forest Trees. With 82 chapters contributed by some 300 internationally known scientists from more than 30 countries, this series will serve as a comprehensive basis for further studies and the delineation of plant genomes and their improvement.

Technical Crops includes plants of great agricultural importance. One chapter is devoted to cotton, the most important fiber crop on which significant progress in molecular genetic research has been made. Reviews on oil palm, coffee, tea, cacao and rubber describe traditional breeding and preliminary molecular results. Chapters on forage crops, ornamentals, and medicinal and aromatic plants each cover a large number of plants and may serve as road maps for further molecular research.
