Synopsis

A little boy has four teddy bears, each of which needs special attention before going to bed. Patiently, he explains away the strange sounds and unfamiliar shapes in the dark. Soon, all four bears and their brave owner are all sound asleep, having happy dreams and no longer afraid.

Children's Literature

Nighttime fears are something that most children experience. The neighbor's cat running across the backyard or a moth bumping against the bedroom screen may seem harmless enough, but when you're young these strange sounds can seem pretty scary. A brave little boy helps his four Teddy Bear friends face the dark by reaching beyond his fears. Some reassuring words and a little love help provide comfort to make nighttime worry-free for all. This would make excellent reading at bedtime, especially for any child that may be afraid of the dark. It is sure to reduce fears and put little ones happily to asleep. 2000 (orig. 1997), Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, Ages 3 to 6, $16.00 and $5.99.
