Overview

Join ten little ones as they build with blocks, dance and swing, share a snack, and read books at Nee Nee's Day Care. When one-by-one the babies get a wee bit stinky, it's time for a change until each is clean and dry and ready for a nap.

Synopsis

Join ten toddlers during a day at Nee Nee's Day Care—a place to build with blocks and bricks, to dance and swing, share a snack, read a book, and more. Where one-by-one the beloved stinky babies are changed until everyone is clean and dry and ready to settle down for a nap (especially Nee Nee!).• Velcro tab closure provides irresistible tactile experience for little hands• Reassuring story for those new to day care• Humorous way to practice counting down from ten to one

Children's Literature

If "stinky" is truly one of the words that is adored by the toddler set, then this concept book is sure to appeal. Counting down from ten stinky babies in need of diaper changes to a lapful of dry sleepy babies, the lilting verse and soft rhythm provide the perfect laptime read. Accompanied by illustrations of mostly smiling babies, the story progresses page-by-page through a typical day at Nee Nee's Day Care. Rows of diaper bags wait unobtrusively on a shelf, two of the babies sit in highchairs to share a "soft, warm bun" while a large friendly dog waits for the bits to fall, and the other stinky babies do all the comforting things that make daycare fun. There are just enough eye-catching touches to make the illustrations worth looking at repeatedly, from a thumb-sucker to a diaper that landed on the dog's head to a toddler wearing sunglasses and "reading" her book. Building with blocks, dancing a jiggle jive, and playing peek-a-boo, the babies all look healthy and happy. With its catchy rhymes and simple phrases, this book is both easy and fun to read. The board book version is missing the Velcro tab that held the standard book closed and gave it a diaper-like appearance. Reviewer: Augusta Scattergood

If stinky is truly one of those words adored by the toddling set, then this concept book is sure to appeal. Counting down from ten stinky babies in need of a diaper change to a lapful of dry sleepy babes, the lilting verse and soft rhythm provide perfect laptime reading. Illustrated with mostly smiling babies, the story progresses page by page through a typical day at NeeNee's Day Care. Rows of diaper bags wait unobtrusively on a shelf, two of the babies sit in highchairs to share a "soft, warm bun" while a large friendly dog waits for the treats to fall and other stinky babies do all the comforting things that make daycare fun. There are just enough touches to make the illustrations worth looking at over and over againβ€”a thumb-sucker; the diaper on the dog's head; a toddler in sunglasses, reading her book. Using building blocks, dancing a jiggle jive, playing peekabooβ€”the babies all look healthy and happy. With its catchy rhymes and simple phrases, this one is easy and fun to read. A Velcro tab holding the book closed gives the board book a diaper-like appearance. 2005, Tricycle Press, Ages 1 to 4.
