Synopsis

Just in time for the 20th anniversary of the bestselling How Many Bugs in a Box?, David Carter is back with the biggest book of bugs yet! Everyone's favorite bugs from titles such as Alpha Bugs, Bed Bugs, and Love Bugs make cameos in this all new Bugs adventure.

Children's Literature

Following the success of his many small bug books, from Alpha Bugs and Beach Bugs, to Jingle Bugs and Stinky Bugs, Carter presents the Big Bug Book . Using rhymed couplets across the large double pages, he offers a variety of bugs in different locations engaged in many various activities. He begins with a comic "waffle bug" that sticks its tongue out when the waffle iron is opened. There are sound effects as saws cut through a wooden crate and "noisy bugs work hard " The convoluted Kissing Bugs have "lots of love." There are flaps to lift as well as pop-ups as pages turn. Part of the fun is in examining the engineering that makes the actions possible. Readers should be inspired to make pop-ups of their own. Reviewer: Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz
