Danielle Williams - Children's Literature
Riehecky presents basic facts about the Cree people in an interesting and easy to read format. The author begins by giving fast facts about how the Cree people lived and hunted, the clothing they wore, and the language they used. A comparison of how they live today with the past is given. Several aspects of Cree history are presented, beginning with the period before white settlers arrived, moving to the time when the Crees are forced onto reservations and their heritage is forcibly taken away. Sections outlining how the Cree have governed themselves, their relationship with the Canadian government, and the Cree religion are presented in turn. Full-color photos and illustrations along with fast facts accompany each topic. A traditional Cree activity, a small glossary, an index, additional sources to consult, and a traditional Cree story are also provided. The book is part of the "Native Peoples" series. 2003, Capstone Press,
