Overview

About 5,000 years ago, a remarkable way of life, or civilization, grew up along the banks of the Nile River in Egypt. It flourished for over 3,000 years, longer than most other civilizations in the world's history. It produced Egypt's great pyramids and temples, which filled visitors with wonder. They still fill us with wonder today, for much of ancient Egypt can still be seen. So many buildings and objects have been preserved that experts find it easier to have firsthand knowledge of the Egyptians than of the Greeks or the Romans, even though Egypt is much older.

Describes the art, architecture, social structure, and history of the ancient Egyptian civilization.
