The Environmental Archaeology of Industry

Past environmental impacts of industry and methods for investigating such impacts are examined in 19 papers from the April 2000 archaeological conference. The environmental impacts of mining and smelting and use of industrial fuels and biological materials are explored in a number of papers. The investigation of proxy indicators for industry takes up nearly a third of the collection.
