Library Journal

A husband-and-wife team, the Yagers have written extensively for the film industry-their work includes screenplays and celebrity interviews-but their scope here is more practical. The basic content is similar to that of the annual Occupational Outlook Handbook from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with each of the 75 two-page entries examining a position's duties, salary, and employment and advancement prospects; the education, training, and experience desired; the requisite personality traits; the relevant unions and associations; and tips for entry. The entries are grouped according to area (e.g., sound, camera, script), with additional information on top film schools, university programs, film festivals, and commissions in appendixes. With an introduction by Peter Guber, chair of Mandalay Entertainment, this will make a useful though comparatively pricey addition to the already extensive body of film career guides, including more comprehensive works like Jaq Greenspon's Careers for Film Buffs and Other Hollywood Types and Tanja Crouch's 100 Careers in Film and Television.-Anthony J. Adam, Prairie View A&M Univ. Lib., TX Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
