Overview

The Fylfot File is an intriguing survey of the many and varied occurrences of the Swastika, or "Fylfot-Cross", in the British Isles. The Nazi appropriation of the symbol, although now the most infamous example of its use, is merely the tip of a very large iceberg; the Fylfot-Cross has a long and benign history that was only discontinued when its reputation was irrevocably tainted in the 1930s. It looks in detail at the occurrences of the Fylfot-Cross, and a wealth of allied symbolism within the British Isles as a whole, in both sacred and secular contexts. Each chapter examines a distinct topic or group of topics, ranging from pre-Roman cultures to the 20th century. The book deals with the evidence of indigenous and imported elements and the complex interaction of influences that brought the symbol to our culture.
