In The Greeks, each double-page spread looks at an important part of the ancient Greek way of life and shows some key evidence – artifacts, architecture, arts and written sources – that enables us to reconstruct and understand their buildings, technology, clothes, jewelry and everyday life:

•Watch a performance at a magnificent theatre.

•See slaves mining silver as their master watches over them.

•witness brave Greek soldiers defeating fierce Persian invaders.

•Visit the awesome statue of Zeus at Olympia.

Looks at some of the evidence for the ancient Greek way of life, including archaeological research and the works of philosophers and playwrights.

School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-Attractive additions to a growing selection of books about ancient cultures. Topics are covered in double-page chapters with numerous full-color illustrations and photographs of artifacts. The Egyptians discusses everyday life, religion, tomb and monument construction, temple life, warfare, etc. Similar subjects are covered in The Greeks along with the Olympic Games, the Battle of Marathon, philosophy, and drama. A unique aspect of this series is the presentation of information about archaeological studies. The chapters include scenes from excavations, explanations of the tools and methods used, and specific discoveries that led to more knowledge about that particular aspect of Egyptian or Greek life and history. Chock-full of interesting tidbits, these overviews are not meaty enough for reports but make interesting fare for browsers.-Cynthia M. Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukee, OR
