Library Journal

The interaction between science and technology in the past two centuries has resulted in the emergence of engineering science as a distinct field of research with a vast literature of its own. This, however, has gone unnoticed in the published histories of science and technology, which have treated engineering science as a subdiscipline. This well-researched and annotated bibliography remedies the situation by identifying most, if not all, the primary and secondary source material on this subject since the 18th century. The book covers the historical, philosophical, social, and institutional framework of the discipline. It includes books, articles, and dissertations in English, French, and German, relating to biographies, collected works, and general studies, especially in the areas of applied and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. Recommended for all academic libraries.-- Sarojini Balachandran, Auburn Univ. Lib., Ala.
