Overview

Whether you're settting up a full-time office, an after work space, a place to pursue arts and crafts (for fun or profit), or simply a comfortable area where you can manage household paperwork, The Home Office is the guide you've been looking for.

This beautiful and pratical book takes you through the ins and outs of creating a workplace that fits into your available space and accomodates any special requirements you may have. It presents detailed information - complete with photographs of successful examples - on converting basements, attics, guest rooms, garages, and other underutilized areas into great office spaces. Homeowners and apartment dwellers who don't have the luxury of a spare room will find illustrated ideas for transforming a dining room, kitchen, bedroom, or den into a multipurpose room, as well as innovative suggestions for turning a closet, a hallway, or the wasted space under the stairs into a cozy, comfortable office.

Library Journal

These two similar books give the amateur an understanding of what to consider when designing a home office. Both discuss evaluating needs, choosing location, layout, furnishings, equipment, and decorating, and both illustrate options for a variety of types of homeeven including craft and sewing areas. Both are well written and illustrated and encourage an accessible, casual style of decorating. Although neither is as extensive as Neal Zimmerman's Home Office Design (LJ 9/15/06), both are recommended, Allen's being the first choice because it offers manufacturers and other resources for equipment and advising on practical matters such as sound proofing..
