Children's Literature

Kids know that the Magic School Bus and Ms. Frizzle mean a crazy learning adventure. In this story filled with puns and notebook pages of factual information, readers learn about the role of the heart in humans and animals and why blood flows through our bodies. It is a lesson easily absorbed. The book also has another story line about the preparations for Keesha's birthday party. Some of the really amazing facts are captured on a page that compares the number of heartbeats per minute for humans (around 70) to that of a hummingbird (about 1000). The busy illustrations, which are typical of the series, show the kids in the main story and the magical adventure. Thought bubbles provide the humor, and notebook pages give more facts. A Level 2 book in the "Scholastic Reader" series. Note: there is a "Dear Parents" page at the beginning of this reader explaining the levels in the series and also providing some important tips to help children learn to read.
