Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

In this amusing cumulative tale, kids will have fun reading about the trouble a little bee causes. First it sits on a duck's tail. The duck is alarmed and says "Scat, but the bee just sat." What is a duck going to do; he goes and sits on a hen. When the hen tries to get the duck to scat, he just sat. The hen went and sat on a pig comfortable in a puddle of mud. Once again, the pig tried to get the hen, duck and bee to scat, but no luck. The pig found a cow and climbed up on its back. Strangely the cow went and sat on a sheep which was asleep and then all the animals started to make noise—a moo, oink, cluck, quack and then a big Buzzz from the bee. The pictures are amusing, lots of expression on the animal's faces and plenty of humor in each of the scenes including the final one. A good choice for those just starting to read—a Level 1 book in the "Scholastic Reader" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
