Children's Literature
In this picture reader (rebus) book, a young boy makes a snowball and gives it a toss. The snowball picks up momentum and a life of its own as it soars overhead past kids on sleds. It even whizzes past cars and trucks and knocks off a few hats. Finally it lands in a cone at an ice cream shop where the same little boy plunks down a dollar for a snowy treat. This is a fanciful story with a winter setting designed to teach simple words. The snowy scenes may make one wonder why an ice cream treat would have so much appeal. The book comes with 24 flash cards to help kids practice reading and word recognition. 2000, Grosset & Dunlap, . Ages 5 to 7. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
