Synopsis

The end of the Cold War and the release of Nelson Mandela were reasons for optimism as the 1990s began, but soon the news was of troubled situations all around the world. Dolly the cloned sheep caused excitement and concern about the uses of increasing knowledge in genetics. Supermodels became as famous as pop stars like Oasis and the Spice Girls. Impressive large sculptures included Gormley's "Angel of the North." Brazil won the World Cup, on penalties, in 1994, and people went rollerblading and line dancing.
