From The Critics

Reviewer: Patricia Blagman, EdD, RN(Pace University)
Description: This three-part book contains uses and techniques of meditation, an introduction to journal writing, and weekly space for journaling with inspirational messages.
Purpose: The purpose is to present two tools for self-exploration and growth: meditation and journal writing to help nurses develop their healing presence.
Audience: Although this book is marketed for nurses, it is also appropriate for anyone pursuing personal growth who wishes to begin meditating or journalizing. Each chapter contains concise, short, easily readable sections with pertinent references and suggested readings. The last section, which can actually be used for journal writing, is attractive. The title limits the market, as it is useful for anyone interested in using these tools for self-growth.
Features: The first section on meditation provides an overview of the psychophysiological effects of meditation. Various meditation techniques and motivational materials are included. The section on journal writing includes ideas on how to get started and many ideas to overcome barriers. The last section provides beautiful journal pages for 52 weeks with an inspirational thought for each week.
Assessment: The book is a valuable introduction for people interested in personal growth and beginning these practices.
