Overview
Three Little Kittens Lorianne Siomades, illustrator of Itsy Bitsy Spider, brings her trademark style to another classic children's rhyme. When three adorable kittens confess to their mother that they have lost their mittens, she tells them that they cannot have a taste of her delicious pie. The sight and smell of the pie sends them racing back to the garden. They search high and low for the mittens, which are hidden in the illustrations. When at last they find the mittens and come running to the kitchen, the kittens and their mother discover the pie is missing. Who took their pie? And, come to think of it, who took their mittens? Could it possibly be the mischievous mice? Big, bright, happy pictures illustrate this all-time favorite.Editorials
Children's Literature -
Classic nursery rhymes have the power to be reinterpreted and go on forever. I distinctly remember a Golden Press version of the "Three Little Kittens" from my very early childhood, as well as animated film adaptations. Maybe it's the guilt factor that makes small children relate to this rhyme so well, since it's not the logic. Why would kittens be wearing mittens to begin with? Sionmades's interpretation answers none of these mysteries, but her watercolor/cutout illustrations are cheerful, and the type is plenty big enough for beginning readers to practice their basic skills. 2000, Boyds Mills Press, Ages 2 to 4, $9.95.
