Children's Literature

Teachers often bemoan the loss of interest in nursery rhymes because they have traditionally been one of the earliest listening and learning experiences for children. They prepare youngsters for the notions of pattern and rhyme. They are often repetitive, which is both comforting and instructive. They are usually silly, adding an element of humor that makes reading fun. Now some of the favorite nursery rhymes and songs have become small board books with holes, each with a different illustrator. In this case, one hole on each page is a star. There are several additional pairs of holes, which become the eyes of different animals on both the left and right side of the page. A multicultural cast of characters finds the star twinkling above the desert, the African savannah, a Chinese jungle, a rainforest, the Australian outback and right back home in the city. The identification of each locale is triggered by one of the animals (camel, panda, koala). The illustrations are warm and round with lots of new places and animals for children to identify. Nursery Education

Based on the familiar, widely used nursery rhyme. It is beautifully illustrated with pages of children in their nightclothes. The illustrator has introduced different styles, colours and pattern to the nightwear, giving the reader lots of scope for language development. The children all have happy faces and can be viewed using appropriate signs and actions to demonstrate the rhyme. British Sign Language is used for each line of the nursery rhyme.

A charming little book with good child appeal and lots of educational value – a useful aid for quiet time.

The delightful characters in the [Sign & Sing-Along] books depict the signs to accompany the words to the song. We think the signing books are an excellent idea. The children particularly liked the illustrations.
