Gr 6-10-Are unicorns real? Did they once exist or have they always been simply figures of myth and imagination? Netzley looks at these questions and others surrounding this mysterious creature. The author first defines what a unicorn is, and in subsequent chapters, discusses its roles as a symbol of luck in different cultures; of Jesus Christ in religious art; and the medicinal property the unicorn's horn was once believed to possess. The sections on how this creature has been viewed by various cultures are particularly interesting, but those on religion and the attempt to create artificial unicorns may not hold readers' attention quite so well. A concise overview filled with black-and-white photographs of sites and artwork from around the world.-Lisa Prolman, Greenfield Public Library, MA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
