Children's Press is pleased to introduce True Books for a new generation!

Completely redesigned for today's young, investigative reader, True Books are an indispensable addition to any collection. Each book guides the reader through the facts that nurture their need to know.

The new, dynamic True Books design features:
-- an inviting and interactive page format
-- a readable and attractive typeface
-- large, bold, and brilliant full-color photographs

The True Books series takes the young reader beyond the standard, fact-filled text by adding avenues for further discovery. Each book includes a variety of sidebars, highlighting extra facts that will fascinate children. In the Important Words section, young readers will find a glossary of words that will both challenge and expand their vocabulary. Each book includes a To Find Out More section, where every curious reader can find a list of related books to read and organizations to contact.

True Books also point readers to the vast electronic universe of information on the Internet. Each book will list:
-- e-mail addresses to help the reader contact individuals and organizations
-- appropriate newsgroups and mailing lists
-- FTP sites to download fun and useful software

Begun in the 1950s, True Books are universally embraced as the definitive nonfiction series for young readers. Now in its third incarnation, the True Books series has once again evolved to meet the needs and tastes of modern readers and educators.

A brief history of elections and voting and an explanation of how these procedures work in the United States today.

Synopsis

The "New True Books" have been produced to fill a very important need. Children are by nature inquisitive and these fact-filled books provide answers to many basic questions.

Students use the New True Books for supplementary work in their classes. They use them to find out about special things that interest them. They read them to learn on their own. Packed with information, each fascinating book encourages children to study independently.

The "New True Books" are effective. Each book is richly illustrated with full-color photographs and art, selected to support the text. A large, easy-to-read typeface is used. Each title contains a table of contents, a glossary, and a complete index.

The "New True Book" series was prepared under the direction of the late Illa Podendorf, formerly with the Laboratory School, University of Chicago.

Remember, children will always have questions, so let the "New True Books" help them find the answers.

Editorials

School Library Journal

K-Gr 4 Excellent color photographs of everyday people exercising their right to vote enhance this discussion of voting, elections and the democratic process as it works in the United States today. Of special note is the chapter on the history of U.S. voting, as it details the long struggle waged by poor people, blacks, women and Indians to gain the right to vote. The importance of voting is emphasized as the exclusive right of all people in a democracy. The remaining chapters are fact-filled, describing the election process from the registration of voters to the announcement of the winners. Appropriate in aim and content for school libraries as resource material, this is a much needed, good basic book on an important subject. Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Public Schools, Va.
