Water, water everywhere. Tap into this well of information from the "Science Alive" series and quench your thirst for knowledge by learning all about water. This book not only makes a great resource for upper elementary science teachers, but would be ideal for badge work in Scout troops, too. It starts simply with a discussion of what water is made of, and progresses through stages of water, keeping cool, water pressure, how water seeks its own level, how it flows up, and an ending discussion of water pollution and water treatment. There are seven chapters followed by a short glossary and index. Each chapter begins with a set of experiments and an explanation of the science and scientists behind them. Each chapter also has 'Did you know?" and mini-factoid sections with additional information on the concept, plus a short "Quiz Time" section. But don't be fooled. This isn't a quiz where students are asked to regurgitate information they read earlier in the chapter. Rather, to pass this quiz, students will have to think it through. Many of the quizzes ask the student to study a diagram and draw conclusions from it. Drawings and photos abound to aid in learning, and difficult words are in boldface and explained in the glossary. All this, and at only thirty-two pages long, it is every teacher or Scout leader's dream. 2003, Crabtree Publishing/Times Editions,
