Gr 4-8-Woolf defines terrorism as "the deliberate use of violence against innocent people to inspire fear for political purposes." He provides examples of various groups' efforts to gain attention, undermine peace, and provoke powerful responses via bombings, murders, and the use of weapons of mass destruction. The final chapter presents political, military, and economic actions taken to prevent extremist activities since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. The role of the United Nations in promoting peace is explained, as is the comprehensive antiterrorism legislation it has passed since the attacks.
