School Library Journal

Gr 9-12 Brief case histories and interviews with families that are affected by disabilities, diseases, and accidents provide a chatty overview of the subject. Although superficial, the volume is fast reading and intended for those who are beginning to look for understanding and parallel situations at a stressful time. For those who want more direction and information it is a poor choice. References to further reading, support groups, and other resources can be found in Fine's Afraid to Ask (Lothrop, 1985), LeShan's When a Parent Is Sick (Atlantic, 1986), and Richter's Losing Someone You Love (Putnam, 1986). There are many books that assist young adults with stress and coping with difficult family times. Skip this one. Ruth Amernick, San Francisco Public Library
