Overview

These poems were written over the course of a year. I met Megan in August and we fell in love...emphasis on the word 'fell' as in losing all sense of balance and toppling head over a**. But I was going through a divorce and missed my kids sorely so I broke up with her in the fall. I spent the winter of my discontent in a holler in Boone County. If you have to be depressed and lonely there is no more suitable place. When I finally realized there would be no reconciliation with my ex or reunion with my children, I...much to my shame but nonetheless...heaved a sigh of relief. I went back to Megan with a surety in my heart and mind that she was the one I wanted to marry and grow old with. Alas, my Deer was seeing someone else by then. The Wolf. And I, a grumbling old Bear, had to woo her away from him. Or, as the rather odd title for a book of love poems has it, to remind her that Wolves Eat Deer.
