Library Journal

By the year 2000, more than half the world's AIDS patients will be women. Despite this fact, little research is available on this subject. This resource brings us information about women with HIV/AIDS from all over the world. The authors discuss HIV/AIDS infection, transmission, and prevention, using information from ten contributors. They describe education and counseling efforts in different countries and offer personal histories of women living with the disease. Unlike Until the Cure: Caring for Women with HIV ( LJ 11/15/93), which is a medical text concerned with clinical care, this book focuses on the social, economic, and educational challenges that this disease presents for women. It offers an interesting look at the way women in different cultures organize to prevent AIDS and care for those who are ill. The extensive references and lists of international organizations and resources are valuable for networking. Highly recommended for all collections.-- Barbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L., Cal.
