Synopsis

Glatthorn (emeritus, education, East Carolina U.) and Joyner (education, East Carolina U.) give advice on planning and writing master's theses and doctoral dissertations. The guidance follows the dissertation process, presenting chapters on foundational matters from finding a research problem and conducting a review of the literature to leaning from the pre-proposal conference; developing and defending the proposal; research and writing activities from carrying out the research design through such matters as mastering the academic style, writing the different sections, and preparing the dissertation defense; defending, publishing, and profiting from the dissertation; and solving personal problems and problems with the dissertation committee. For this second edition, they have added chapters discussing the use of peer collaboration and offering guidance in using technology to the section covering the foundations of the discussion.
