PreS-Gr 3-- Readers entering this forest may feel lost. There are no maps or place indicators included, and the trees are never identified. Gorgeous endpapers set the mood for a walk through this mystery forest over the course of the early morning, daytime, evening, and night. In each section, the full-color photographs bring insect, bird, mammal, and amphibian activity to life. However, the excellent photography is paired with a lifeless narrative. Much of the information in the photo captions is repeated in the text, which makes for boring reading. This may be of some use to teachers working on the concept of a forest but, as a research tool, it is useless. --Susannah Price, Boise Public Library, ID
