Glowing full-color photographs fill each right-hand page and show the growth of a tomato plant from seed to ripe red fruit. On the verso, a simple sentence in large print begins the text, which then continues in smaller print and in greater detail for more experienced readers. Watts notes in a clear and straightforward style the changes in the plant; small photos or drawings add more information on growth above and below ground. On the last pages, readers are encouraged to look at six small photos and to retell the story of the plant's growth. The photos, many in close-up, are so clear and well lit that every tiny hair glistens. History, gardening tips, and recipes are not included here: the scope of this book is strictly the growth of a tomato plant, and it is presented exceptionally well. --Sharon Levin, University of Vermont, BurlingtonBook Details
