K-Gr 3-- Life along the seashore is presented by highlighting the activities of a variety of species during one 24-hour cycle. Through sharp full-color photographs of varying sizes and the narrative they amplify, the active and quiet cycles of starfish, crabs, shrimps, mollusks, and birds are explained and illustrated. Watts begins with the stirrings of predawn activity and shows the animals as they prepare for low tide and sunrise. As the sun sets, the danger of being seen, caught, and eaten by the hungry birds decreases, and activity in the rockpools increases to its peak by nightfall. A glossary and index help to clarify terms introduced, but this book is better for browsing than for reports. A great title to borrow in preparation for a trip to the beach. --Frances E.
