ARBA differs significantly from other reviewing media in its basic purpose, which is to provide comprehensive coverage of English- language reference books published in the US and Canada during a single year. The 1,792 books reviewed in Volume 24 cover imprints from 1992 and some from 1991 that were received too late to be covered in the previous volume. With Volume 24, ARBA inaugurates the reviewing of electronic publishing, with approximately 20 CD-ROMs and one disk receiving comprehensive and lengthy evaluations. Five-year cumulative indexes (the most recent covering 1985-1989) facilitate the use of the annual volumes, but we do wish that each annual volume would cumulate the indexes of the previous volumes during the interim period.
