Gisela Jernigan, Ph.D. - Children's Literature
Part of the "Abre los Ojos y Aprende!" or "Eyeopeners" series, this slim volume briefly describes ten crafts or art forms from Nepal, Mexico, Kenya, Morocco, India, France, Indonesia, China, the United States and Ireland. The crafts included are tile mosaics, henna body-painting, shadow puppets and calligraphy. Each craft is described with a short page of simple Spanish text facing a large color photo. A small world map at the top of the text page helps to locate the country being discussed. An index, bibliography and internet list are included. While visually appealing, the information presented is very superficial. The series is aimed at beginning or early readers in grades K through 3. It might be useful if simple Spanish overviews of culture and geography are needed. 2002, Blackbirch Press/Thomson Gale, Ages 5 to 9.
