Children's Literature - Heather Robertson Mason

Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Kevin Federline. These are some of the people who demonstrate the obsession with fame for fame's sake. The author of this book, a part of the "10 Things You Need to Know About" series, capitalizes on kids' and teens' obsession with fame. Divided into ten spreads, the book deals with topics such as "Tabloids keep celebs off the front page" and "Most celebs have a large posse." While the book never veers from its topic, there is really only so much to say about being famous. However, the readers that this book is designed for probably will not mind. Whether fostering this obsession is a good or bad thing is up to the parent or teacher. While the publishers recommend this book to students as low as third grade, the best audience would be older students who are reading on a third to fourth grade level. Also included are an index, a glossary, quiz, and link to FactHound.com. Reviewer: Heather Robertson Mason
